13. Costs of imprisonment (income and expenses)

For the current year 2002 in the budget for the prisons are intended:

total income of 46,9 Mil. Euro, 44,1 Mil. Euro of it from the prisoner's work.

total expenses of

285,7 Mil. Euro, from them
172,3 Mil. Euro for the staff
64,1 Mil. Euro for the administration
22,4 Mil. Euro for assignments and contributions
15,3 Mil. Euro for construction measures
7,7 Mil. Euro for investments.

For construction measures there are additional expenses of 19,7 Mil. Euro from privatisation proceeds intended.

The results of the year 2001 shows as follows:

total income of 48,9 Mil. Euro, 45,2 Mil. Euro of it from the prisoner's work.

total expenses of

268,7 Mil. Euro, from them
160,6 Mil. Euro for the staff
61,2 Mil. Euro for administration
22,5 Mil. Euro for assignments and contributions
33,3 Mil. Euro for construction measures
(including money from
proceeds of privatisation)
5,2 Mil. Euro for investments.

This results in the necessity of getting contribution to the amount of 219,8 Mil. Euro from the state.

In 2001, the average expenses for the imprisonment of a prisoner amounted in Bavaria to

a) imprisonment expenses per day: 61,10 Euro
b) factor for construction expenses: 7,85 Euro
Altogether: 68,95 Euro
